To support the rapid deployment of new light- weighting technologies being developed at LIFT, workers will have to understand and be confident in using the latest advanced technologies, help integrate them into compa- nies’ processes, and maintain their performance over time. Nationally, there were 322,759 job postings for industrial-technology mainte- nance jobs between 2015- 2016, but only 26,152 gradu- ates in related training or post-secondary programs, according to NIMS stats.

The centers offer compre- hensive service support, including spare parts, upgrades and retrofits, and commonly required compo- nents needed for emergency and scheduled repair and maintenance services will be stocked. Factory-trained serv- ice technicians provide response to onsite service requests as well as technical support by phone. The facili- ties also showcase a range of LVD Strippit sheetmetal fabri- cation equipment for cus- tomer-training and product- demonstration purposes.
Facilities
Atlas Technologies announced the installation of a Haas large-frame vertical machining center (VMC) at its Fenton, MI, facility. The VF-12-series VMC is designed to accommodate large-volume machining required to service Atlas’ var- ious customer markets.
LVD Strippit Opens Two More Customer- Support Centers
LVD Strippit, Akron, NY, has opened its Southeast Support Center located in Charlotte, NC, and its South- west Support Center in Dal- las, TX. The manufacturer of laser-cutting systems, punch presses, press brakes, guillo- tine shears and mid-level automation systems also operates support centers in the Midwest and Northeast United States.
The VMC adds to the Fen- ton facility’s 51,000 sq. ft. of inhouse manufacturing space that currently provides custom welding and fabrication as well as contract-manufactur- ing services. The VMC fea- tures a 150 by 28-in. T-slot table with 50 taper configura- tions and spindle speeds to 10,000 rpm. The machine’s capabilities will streamline the manufacturing process to meet increasing production demands while providing a higher quality of metal fabrica- tion, according to company officials.
The Southeast Support Center provides technical service, support and training for customers in the South Atlantic and East South Cen- tral states while the South- west Support Center services and supports customers in the Southwestern/Central United States, including Cali- fornia, Nevada, Colorado and New Mexico. Atlas Technologies Adds Vertical Machining Center
Increasing use of advanced steels with higher yield strengths was taking a toll on Liberty Steel’s 20-year-old COE coil processing line and challenging its ability to achieve flatness requirements. Rather than replace the entire line, COE upgraded the existing straightener head with a new HD series heavy duty power straightener, saving the company significant money, and improving process and part quality.
