molds as large as 3 by 4 m, and as heavy as 18 tons. The work- piece remains stationary while the machine’s axes move around it. The Laser 4000 5Ax manages 3D distortion of tex- ture and masters texture direction related to part shape.
Because of its fully digitized process, the machine allows manufacturers to envision a design, preview it onscreen, and perfectly reproduce it on a workpiece. The machine includes on-board machining strategies to ensure optimal perform- ance and material-removal rate, and accurate reproduction of the intended texture.
With its laser technology, GF AgieCharmilles provides a process that reportedly is faster, quieter and more repeatable than conventional manual and chemical etching processes. And while chemical etching produces only three to five layers, GF
AgieCharmilles’ laser technology achieves 30 to 50 layers, allow- ing for greater creativity in part design across a variety of mate- rials, including graphite, aluminum, copper, steel, carbide, brass and ceramics.

Magnetics Catalog—You Can’t Help But be Attracted
Industrial Magnetics, Inc., Boyne City, MI, has published a 36-page catalog titled Magnets 101, which includes more than 25 new magnetic products and tools for increasing the speed, efficiency and safety of material-handling operations involving ferrous-metal alloys.
Highlights of the catalog include the new Read Rite inspec- tion mirror, which allows users to see a non-inverted image of numbers, letters, symbols and pictures in difficult viewing loca- tions; and the new Air Spring Fanner, which uses shop air to activate/deactivate the magnetic field when fanning steel sheet stock. Also worth noting is an expanded section dedicated to rectangular fixture magnets.
