 Tech Update
Keep Laser-Cut Work Cool and Enjoy Numerous Benefits
Trumpf Inc., Farmington, CT, intro- duces CoolLine, a new option for its 2D laser-cutting machines. During laser cut- ting, the CoolLine nozzle directs a water mist around the laser beam as it reach- es the workpiece. In doing so, CoolLine reduces the heat transferred in the immediate cutting zone and allows fab- ricators to achieve contours that would otherwise be difficult or impossible to process.
With this new option, users can cut small sidewalls and difficult geometries more efficiently, especially in thick mate- rial. Fabricators also will, say company offi- cials, enjoy a considerable increase in process reliability when laser processing low-grade material or material of varying composition.
CoolLine is fully integrated into the cut- ting process via a specially designed laser-cutting head, various nozzles and
a water supply tank. With CoolLine, fab- ricators will enjoy higher-quality cuts with smaller contours or greater com- plexity, for increased flexibility. The option
also allows fabricators to nest parts more closely together.
