allows die designers to model, in minutes, the 3D complex-shaped intermediate stages of a progressively formed part. Use it to design progressive, transfer and line dies, or for creating prototype tooling.
Says Ray Proeber, president of Accu- rate Die Design: “Designers can, very quickly, partially unform specific areas of a complex-shaped model and leave the rest of the complex shape intact.” (Proe- ber invites readers to view an online video illustrating the use of the new add-on at his company’s website, www.accurate- diedesign.com).
Progressive Blank Companion includes tools for constraining specific edges, faces or pilot holes, and allows the designer to lock the material in a specific direction. It also provides localized infor- mation about thinning and thickening, as well as measuring stress and strain. Accurate Die Design: 262/938-9316; www.accuratediedesign.com; www.logopress3.com
Soluble-Oil Lubricants Extend Tooling Life, Reduce Maintenance Costs
To operate cost-effectively and increase operational efficiencies, stamp- ing and drawing companies would ben- efit from lubricants capable of working in a wide variety of applications and with a host of metal alloys, say engineers at Houghton International, Valley Forge, PA. Toward that end, the company has introduced Houghto-Draw 7060 and Drawsol WM 2800—heavy-duty soluble- oil lubricants designed for the toughest of stamping and drawing operations.
Houghto-Draw 7060 lubricates fer- rous and nonferrous alloys, including titanium and Inconel alloys. It is com- patible with hard water and runs clean with low foaming, says the company, which minimizes disposal costs and downtime associated with maintenance. Its bio-stable formula reportedly ensures long, odor-free sump life and resists biological attacks to improve mainte-
nance conditions for operators. Addi- tionally, Houghto-Draw 7060 optimizes tool life due to its in-process corrosion protection of machinery and parts.
Drawsol WM 2800 contains highly refined petroleum oils, extreme-pressure agents, fatty lubricants and rust inhibitors to handle most heavy-duty stamping and drawing processes. It also offers good
anti-corrosion protection, which helps improve part storage life. The high-vis- cosity lubricant fits applications that require carry-through to multiple stages; dilute it with water for use on routine press operations, ranging from heavy- gauge drawing to medium stamping.
