Pilz developed the MSE service for those who wish to have the safety and conformity of their existing machinery efficiently evaluated, for full staff and lia- bility protection. The service also is appro- priate for machines that must be checked for retrofitting, and for new machinery.
The firm offers two levels of detail for an MSE, depending on the requirements: Level 1—Check the conformity of the safety status and list recommended actions
to reduce risk.
Level 2—Also includes an evaluation
of the main risks and reviews the docu- mentation. Then, if required, Pilz produces a conformity overview in accordance with specific company specifications, evaluates the maximum achievable performance level for the tested subfunctions and, as an option, also provides a cost estimate for a potential upgrade.

Newly Published Textbook: Stamping Practice—High Performance Stamping
A new English-language textbook, Stamp- ing Practice, is available from publisher Springer Vieweg. The book is a shortened version of the German textbook Stanztech- nik, which has been an essential tool for professionals in stamping technology for more than 50 yr. Stamping Practice is authored by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Matthias Kolbe, head of the professorship Forming and Stamping Technology and Highspeed Form- ing at the University of Applied Sciences, Zwickau, Germany. It is the result of close cooperation between Kolbe and Bruderer, a Swiss manufacturer of automatic stamping presses, and Jenoptik, a German manu-
