Yet, according to a 2018 report by Deloitte, the lack of qualified talent could cause the United States to lose as much as $454 billion in GDP by 2028. The same research shows the United States with more than 500,000 unfilled manufactur- ing jobs.
“As American manufactur- ing continues its resurgence, the focus now needs to turn to aggressively addressing the looming and potentially devas- tating skills gap,” says CNC Machines CEO Curt Doherty.
Scholarship applications are due January 17 with the winner being announced on February 3.

Ametek SMP Superior Tube, a Collegeville, PA-based manufacturer of small-diame- ter precision metal tubing for the aerospace and defense sectors, has announced two successful reaccreditations from Warrendale-PA Nadcap, formerly known as the Nation- al Aerospace and Defense Contractors Accreditation Pro- gram. Superior Tube met all of Nadcap’s requirements based on standards covering heat treating and welding/brazing.

Superior Die Set Corp., an Oak Creek, WI-based provider of steel and aluminum prod- ucts, has appointed its first CEO outside the Janiszewski family in the company’s 96-yr. history. Martin Girga, former vice president and general manager at Giddings and Lewis, succeeds Frank Janiszewski. After more than 40 years at Superior, Janiszewski and his brother Casey remain majority share- holders of the company and serve as co-chairmen of the board of directors.
