Next-Gen CMM Platform Enhances Precision Part Productivity
New from Hexagon's Manufacturing Intelligence division, the multisensory Optiv M CMM deploys Hexagon’s Enhanced Productivity Series (EPS) to provide manufacturers of small and medium pre- cision parts a range of configuration packages optimized for their individual applications.
The EPS concept offers manufacturers a choice of productivity drivers based on their applications’ need for throughput, precision, flexibility or shop-floor
capability. The preconfigured, highly
evolutive EPS packages make it sim-
pler for quality engineers and CMM
operators to create, execute and ana-
lyze measurement routines that drive
higher productivity, according to com-
pany officials, and are available in three performance levels for a range of applications and budgets.
A flexible, upgradable configuration makes the CMMs compatible with a comprehensive portfolio of contactless and tactile sensors, software and collaborative technologies. Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence: hexagonmi.com
Safety Gains in Four-Slide Technology
Manufacturing-safety studies show that a safe work environment can boost productivity levels by as much as 83 per- cent. Department of Labor statistics show that on an annual basis, six out of 100 metal fabrication workers report injuries related to equipment usage.
One culprit: mechanical four-slide machines composed largely of rotating shafts, each of which potentially dangerous due to the possibility of clothing being grabbed, or unintended pinching or crush- ing contact with skin, arms or hands— any of these occurrences can lead to severe injuries.
Bihler 4 Slide-NC, Inc., a joint venture of Bihler of America, Inc. and Otto Bihler Maschinenfabrik, Germany, offers servo automation technology that eliminates the need for rotating shafts, which greatly reduces the risk of hazardous injuries.
   Made to Handle Metal.
