 Safety Update
Dust/Fume Collectors Ideal for Laser, Plasma Cutting
The 2016 Metals Service Center Insti- tute (MSCI) Safety Survey shows a positive trend for safety in the industry, according to 2015 data just released. Incidents have decreased drastically over time, reports the survey, from 10/man-hour on average across the industry in 2002 to

that prove ideal for laser and plasma cutting, welding, and dry machining. A unique, integrated spark arrestor separates fine and coarse dust into separate bins. Dual-pulse technology provides long, effi- cient filter life. And, maintenance is sim- plified thanks to low-level access for filter change-out, and single- or dual-side access for internal inspection and service. Flow rate ranges from 1500 to 6000 m3/hr. five and below now. MSCI stressed its intention to help continue that trend.
Service Centers Safer, Survey Shows
MSCI and the NSC unveiled the MSCI Safety Excellence program last October, extending MSCI’s safety resources to include surveys, benchmarks, information and additional training access. And, the asso- ciation recently has launched its Safety Excellence Award, which recognizes MSCI member companies that have shown a recognized commitment to excellence in safety. The program is designed to be espe- cially helpful to lean organizations that might benefit from additional accountability
“Lean metals companies face unique challenges and often don’t have a safety professional to push for continuous improvement in the area of safety,” says Robert Weidner III, MSCI president and CEO “MSCI has partnered with the National Safety Council (NSC) to provide MSCI members of all sizes access to safety professional training, critical benchmarking and best practices tools.”
