 Ready, Set, IMTS!
There’s plenty of metalforming and fabricating technology on display at IMTS, including laser-, plasma- and waterjet-cutting equipment.
Much more than merely machining technology, the 2016 edition of IMTS, a 1.3-million-sq.ft. behemoth of a manufacturing tradeshow, offers up breakthrough developments in automation and robotics, fabricating equipment, software and additive manufacturing.
the show’s vast collection of machine tools, controls, computers, software, components and systems.
Complementing the metalworking solutions on display at IMTS are five additional co-located shows, organized by Hanover Fairs, USA:
• Industrial Automation North America
• Motion, Drive & Automation North America
• Surface Technology North America
• ComVac North America
• Industrial Supply North America

IMTS 2016 lands September 12-17, in Chicago. It’s the 31st edition of the manufacturing technology show and will welcome more than 2000 exhibiting companies that will occupy 1.3 million sq. ft. of exhibit space at the McCormick Place complex. Among the exhibitors of metal-fabricating and form- ing equipment—including waterjet- and laser-cutting machines, press brakes, welding equipment and the like—are more than a dozen suppliers of addi- tive-manufacturing technology. They’re housed in a new Additive Manufacturing pavilion at this year’s edition of IMTS.
Also on tap: a 1.5-day additive-man- ufacturing technical conference. Slated for Tuesday and Wednesday, September 13 and 14, in the SKY Ballroom B (Room W375-B), the Additive Manufacturing Conference covers processes, applica- tions and materials, and gives attendees practical knowledge on how to imple- ment the technology in their facilities.
This year’s accompanying IMTS
technology conference also features the inaugural Industrial Laser Confer- ence presented by the Laser Institute of America. Topics to be addressed include applications for lasers, such as additive manufacturing, cutting, welding and marking.
Other educational opportunities include the Trends in Advanced Machining Manufacturing and Mate- rials conference; technical sessions on quality and automation; and the Global Automation & Manufacturing Summit, which will feature presentations on how plant managers use automated systems to deliver improved safety, reli- ability and productivity.
Bonus: Five Additional Co-Located Shows
IMTS is held every even-numbered year in Chicago and attracts more than 114,000 attendees from more than 112 countries. They’ll peruse dozens of exhibitor-lined aisles to take a look at
