the Centerpiece of Expansion Efforts
 A new 660-ton Stamtec transfer press at Genesee features a compact Tomac feed line comprising a combination servo-feeder/straightener with uncoiler and coil cart. Material payoff is from the back of the coil, to provide slack that helps even out material feed into the straightener.
Automotive stamper Genesee Group is expanding—not just its footprint or its resume of core competencies, but also its customer base, beyond automotive. At the center of its expansion efforts is a new 660-ton transfer press to allow the principally progressive-die stamper to “play in a bigger sandbox.”

Three years ago, Larry Wright, business development manager of the Genesee Group’s metal- forming plant in Mount Juliet, TN, approached his board of directors with a plan to “get out of the sandbox of progressive-die stampings made on 500-ton and smaller presses,” he recalls. “The margins simply have become too small in that sandbox, and they con- tinue to shrink. I laid out a plan to move to a larger sandbox, where we’d stamp larger parts and employ more value-added resources, such as auto- mated welding.”
Expansion has been on the mind of the Genesee management team for several years. Since May 2010, when Wright joined the company, revenues have more than tripled, and manufac-
