Tool & Die / Mechanical Designer
Utility Trailer Manufacturing Co. seeks a Tool & Die / Mechanical Designer with superior SolidWorks skills for its R&D facility located in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. This position will aid in the design of cost-effective dies, tooling, fixtures and automation systems to further advance UTM’s manufacturing processes of trailers for six factories located throughout the U.S and Mexico. The ideal candidate will have a proven history of machine design and tooling knowl- edge or should be familiar with stamping processes that includes the ability to design dies and lead them from concept, through drawing release and into the production site. This position reports directly to our Corporate Tooling Manager and will work closely with current Tool & Die Designers and have interaction with our Corporate and Plant Engineers.
Job Description:
• Design and development of stamping dies, tooling, fixture solutions and light automation- machine designs using SolidWorks
• Collaborate with current Tool & Die Designers, Shop Foreman and Factory Engineers to ensure the desire and needs of future fixtures, tools and equipment
• Provide tooling support to manufacturing to ensure all designs are manufactured correctly and/or function to desired expectations
• Provide problem solving support to the factories on existing fixtures, dies and machines
• Work with outside tooling vendors to ensure correct manufacturing, support and cost effec-
tiveness
• Will be responsible for updating drawings, revision levels and all documentation for active
projects
• Capable of reverse engineering old fixtures that have little to no existing drawings
Requirements:
• BSME or equivalent manufacturing experience
• Advanced SolidWorks experience is a must
• Ability to use FEA software and perform stress analysis is a plus
• Knowledge of PLC, pneumatics & hydraulics is preferred
• Experience in the selection of materials and material processing
• Good interpersonal skills and able to excel in a team environment
• Thoughtfully considerate and open to diverse perspectives
• Able to collaborate while trouble shooting and problem solving
• Self starter with proven leadership skills and able to work with minimum supervision • Work with and give clear direction to fellow employees
• Ability to handle and oversee multiple projects and functions
• Experience working in an R&D as well as a manufacturing environment
• Must be efficient in computer use along with MS Office software including MS Project • Possible travel to certain factories 2 to 4 times a year
• Transportation manufacturing experience a big plus
