 Combination Die-Coating Process
Bohler-Uddeholm Corp. Booth S4567
Engineers from Bohler-Uddeholm Corp., Elgin, IL, will be on hand to explain the recent acquisition of Eifeler Coating Technologies, and Eifeler’s Duplex Variantic coating sys- tem. The low-temperature coating process combines plasma nitriding with the Variantic PVD-TiAlCN process. It’s designed to meet the needs of various metalforming process- es, including stamping of advanced high-strength steels (AHSS), and deep drawing.
Visit the booth to learn about the studies that have been done on D2 B-pillar dies, featuring sections coated with Variantic Duplex, used to stamp AHSS.

Feed Control Eschews the Standard Jerky Trapezoidal Profile Dallas Industries
Booth S4415
Dallas Industries, Troy, MI, will demon- strate its unique ProfileSelect feed con- trol and explain how it minimizes electrical and mechanical stress on stamping
equipment and material. Unlike stan- dard controls, ProfileSelect uses a sinu- soidal profile (cam motion), providing a smooth motion and material feed and uti- lizing 100 percent of the press-feed window while putting less stress on all mechanics. Standard press controls use a trapezoidal profile, which results in quick, jerky motions that can slip, put- ting stress on the die and material and potentially damaging the part’s surface.
ProfileSelect is ideally suited for pro- gressive-die work when the part’s cos- metics are a factor or when using delicate material. The controls have an HMI touchscreen and come standard on all new Dallas press-feeding equipment or can be retrofitted to most existing line.
Also on display: a pair of state-of-the- art servo press feeds connected to a net- working, monitoring and analysis system for communicating to the plant floor while monitoring and analyzing equipment efficiencies and providing reports.
