   Tooling Update
Tooling Technology
New AutoForm Release Enhances Digital Process Planning
AutoFormplus R5 offers addi-
tional planning options and con-
tains new, valuable features to
support planning tasks for pro- gressive-die stamping. These fea-
tures enable users to easily define
and visualize a strip concept and estimate material cost.
In addition, the process plan now can be edited direct-
ly on the geometry in the 3D view, which simplifies the
process-modification process. Information and data created
in the process plan are directly accessible in the AutoForm data
file and able to be shared with other engineering groups. Propa-
gating the full process plan downstream ensures consistency in the engineering process and accelerates advanced feasibility analyses.
AutoFormplus R5 also includes new tooling features, including enhanced die-face creation to support the definition of drawing and secondary operations. A new type of geometry modification enables the generation of well-defined preform geometries. And, enhanced flange-development options make it easier to consider subsequent trim and flanging operations during draw-die modeling.

In-Die Tapping Heads
Designed for Simplified
Maintenance
Hutchison Tool Sales, Bensenville, IL, has launched a new line of in-die tapping heads that can be removed from the die without pulling the die from the press. This feature promises to reduce press down- time by eliminating multiple die setups.
Features in the new heads—available in Series 3000 and 6000 styles—include an adjustable coolant ring and an enhanced leadscrew/tap-collet design. Single- and multiple-spindle units handle strip 1⁄8 in. and thinner.
Model 3000 can tap #2-56 to 1⁄4-20 or M2 to M6; maximum press stroke is 16 in., maximum run rate is 250 strokes/min. Model 6000 can tap #6-32 to 1⁄2-20 or M3.5 to M12; maximum press stroke is 20 in., max. run rate is 100 strokes/min. Hutchison Tool Sales: 630/766-2585; www.hutchisontool.com
