METALFORM Mexico a Resounding Success
For the fifth year, PMA’s METALFORM Mexico tradeshow was co-located with FABTECH Mexico and the AWS Weldmex shows. The “Mega Event” was held May 7-9, 2013, at the Cintermex in Monterrey, Mexico, featuring 324 exhibitors over 76,000 sq. ft. of exhibit space, and attracting 9400 attendees.
METALFORM Mexico featured 13,600 sq. ft. of exhibits, among them press supplier Sutherland Presses, which sold five presses at the show. “We haven’t felt a tradeshow to be this powerful and productive in years,” said Jill Suther- land, director of business development. “METALFORM Mexi- co 2013 has been a breath of fresh air and an uplifting indi- cator of the manufacturing economy in Mexico.”
Next year’s show runs May 6-8, 2014, in Mexico City.

Trumpf Cuts the Ribbon on New Laser- Development Facility
A new 6200-sq.-m facility in Schramberg-Sulgen, Ger- many, has become the home of solid-state laser develop- ment for Trumpf Laser GmbH + Co. The project, an invest- ment of 13.5 million euros, allows the firm to consoli- date all of its laser-develop- ment efforts under one roof. Included are laser-testing lab- oratories, a climate-con- trolled chamber, offices and conference rooms.
T.J. Snow Supplies Multi-Gun Spot Welder to Muffler Maker
Resistance-welding-equip- ment manufacturer T.J. Snow Co., Chattanooga, TN, recent- ly furnished the Tier One muf- fler supplier for the new 2014 Corvette with a spe- cially designed multi-gun spot-welding machine. The firm, which celebrated its 50th anniversary on April 1, 2013, also has on its pro- duction floor two machines
being readied for seam weld- ing the necks of shock absorbers. T.J. Snow oper- ates out of a 64,000-sq.-ft. facility on 12 acres adjacent to the Chattanooga airport, and maintains a 12,000-sq.- ft. warehouse where it stores an inventory of more than 300 used welding machines.
Canadian Service Center Retrofits Stretcher Leveler
Russel Metals, Missis- sauga, Ontario, has pur- chased a 1⁄4- by 72-in. stretcher leveler from Red Bud Industries, Red Bud, IL. The machine will be installed on an existing cut-to-length line at the firm’s B&T Steel Division in Stoney Creek, Ontario.
Jagemann Stamping in Growth Mode
“We are experiencing growth in all of our key busi- ness segments,” says Ralph Hardt, president of Jage- mann Stamping Co., Mani- towoc, WI. Those segments include deep-draw and pro- gressive-die applications,
fineblanking, plastic/metal parts and brass casings. To make room for the growth and for future business expansion, the company announced plans to build a 50,000-sq.-ft. addition to its manufacturing plant and add as many as 100 jobs during 2013-2014.
Bohler-Uddeholm Opens Canadian PVD Center
A new PVD coating facility has opened in Mississauga, Ontario, courtesy of Bohler- Uddeholm. The 9000-sq.-ft. service center will provide high-performance duplex PVD coatings using advanced coat- ing chambers from Eifeler.
Ten Coe Coil Lines Headed to NASG
North American Stamping Group is adding new coil-pro- cessing lines from Coe Press Equipment, Sterling Heights, MI, at three stamp- ing facilities. A total of 10 lines will be installed at NASG plants in Portland, TN, Woodstock, Ontario, Canada, and Queretaro, Mexico. Three lines include zig-zag feed capability; seven are conventional lines for pro- gressive-die operations.

Diemasters Recognized (Again) for its Workforce- Development Efforts
Diemasters Manufactur- ing Inc., Elk Grove Village, IL, has received the 2013 Man- ufacturing Leadership 100 Award for Workforce Develop- ment. Presented by Manufac- turing Executive, the awards “honor companies and indi-
viduals that are shaping the future of global manufactur- ing.” Diemasters, a metal stamper and fabricator, previ- ously earned a pair of awards from the Precision Metalform- ing Association for its work- force-development efforts.
Utah Fabricator Earns Boeing Recognition
Boeing has presented a Supplier of the Year award to Petersen Inc., Ogden, UT, one of 16 companies to receive recognition during a recent ceremony held in San Diego, CA. Peterson provides fabri- cation, machining and field services to customers in the aerospace, petrochemical, nuclear and other industries.
Esab Earns Award for Customer Service Esab Cutting Systems, Florence, SC, received the
2013 Gold Stevie Award for excellence in sales and cus- tomer service. The firm was recognized for the “sales turnaround of the year” from more than 1200 entries from companies in various indus- tries around the world. The Stevie Awards, part of The American Business Award program, were created to honor and generate public recognition of the achieve- ments and positive contribu- tions of organizations and business people worldwide.
Cleveland Stamper Recognized for “Value Creation”
Talan Products, Cleveland, OH, is among 101 Northeast Ohio midsized companies to earn a 2013 Leading Edge Award, from the regional eco- nomic-development group The Entrepreneurs Edge. Companies are recognized
