Connecticut Spring & Stamping to Present at Shingo Prize Conference
Self-Directed Work Teams Improve On-time Delivery and Quality is the title of the presentation that Connecticut Spring & Stamping (CSS) will provide for the 2012 Northeast Shingo Prize Confer- ence, September 25-26 in Worcester, MA. CSS vice president of continuous improvement Gaston Pelletier and con- tinuous improvement engineer Greg Mit- era will give the presentation. They will discuss how the firm’s use of self-direct- ed work teams achieves “ambitious 100-percent on-time delivery and quality objectives.” Among the operational improvements that Pelletier and Mitera will discuss: printing job-start dates more visibly on work orders; setting up break areas close to production lines; and procedures for moving material more quickly to the shop floor.

Weartech Intl., Anaheim, CA, a manu- facturer of cobalt-based hardfacing and wear-resistant welding consumables, has been acquired by Lincoln Electric, Cleveland, OH. The add-on to Lincoln’s consumables portfolio enhances its presence in the high-growth energy and process-chemical market segments.
DGI Supply to Acquire Bay-Area Distributor
DGI Supply, Wheeling, IL, a DoAll company, has signed a letter of intent to acquire K & H Sales, Inc., which oper- ates distribution centers in three North- ern California locations—San Leandro, Watsonville and El Dorado Hills. The firm supplies metal-cutting tools, precision measurement equipment and machine- shop supplies, as well as fasteners, hand and power tools, abrasive systems and maintenance supplies. DGI Supply, which intends to broaden the inventory
at each K & H location, operates 49 sales offices in North America and offers abrasive and band-sawing prod- ucts, cutting tools and fluids, MRO and safety products, and more.
Art Technologies Added to Holding Company’s Portfolio
C.M. Paula Co., Mason, OH, has acquired metalformer Art Technologies, Inc., Hamilton, OH. In announcing the acquisition, C.M. Paula’s sixth in the past seven years, CEO Greg Ionna says, “Our philosophy is to buy it, grow it and hold it.” Art Technologies employs
32 people and manufactures hinges, bearings and other metal parts for the automotive, truck, agricultural and other industries.

Woman Takes Charge of Confederation of British Metalforming
For the first time, a woman has taken charge of the Confederation of British Metalforming (CBM), as operations director Geraldine Bolton has been appointed head of the trade association, headquartered in West Bromwich, Eng- land. Bolton, who previously served CBM as secretary, recently earned a degree in business management at Essex Univer- sity. She expects to increase the associ- ation’s emphasis on technology initia- tives to improve member competitiveness, and to develop closer relationships with other related trade associations.

Sioux Falls to Welcome New Metal-Panel Manufacturing Plant
Metal Sales Manufacturing Corp., Louisville, KY, announced plans to open a facility in Sioux Falls, SD, to manufacture metal roof and wall panels for the building and construction industry. The plant will be Metal Sales’ 21st U.S. location.
