emergency stop buttons. On the x-axis, indicating the horizontal positioning of a part in the peening chamber, Concept added over-travel sensors for the tractor axis.
“The machines are quite reliable now,” adds French. “The peening process does- n’t run more quickly, but machine downtime has been significantly reduced, resulting in an overall increase in productivity of five to seven percent.” He also notes a reduc- tion in the amount of training required on the machines, due HMI commonality. Esab Introduces
Retrofitable Vision
51R Control
Esab Cutting Systems, Florence, SC, introduces the Vision 51R Control, designed as a retrofit onto cutting gantries under the direction of older Vision series controls. The 51R combines the reliability of a solid-state PC-based control with the stability of the Windows CE operating sys- tem. Use it to update cutting machines running single box controls from the Vision 4-Series, including the Vision 500, 1000, 2000, 2000C and 3000. With simple field wiring and identical mount- ing configuration, hardware installation “is a breeze,” say company officials.
With four tool-station controls, the Vision 51R can handle most cutting- machine applications, including plasma, oxyfuel, and marker stations in any com- bination with as many as four cutting heads. Existing process-control I/O hard- ware typically can be reused, minimizing overall retrofit cost and installation time. Further, operators can leverage the con- trol’s Windows operating system for net- working and USB support, to enhance communications and quicken program transfer. A built-in process database sim- plifies setup by automatically setting parameters including cutting speed, kerf offset and timers based on material type and thickness and desired cut quality.
