Forecast Calls for a Healthy U.S. Welding Market
Freedonia Group is forecasting 6.4 annual increases through 2015 for demand in the United States for welding equipment and consumables. Among end-use markets for welding equipment and consumables, Freedonia projects annual growth of 6.2 percent for manufacturing applications, 11.0 percent for construction, 6.2 percent for energy and power generation, and 6.8 percent for repair and mainte- nance. Ohio senators Tom Niehaus and Keith Faber recently presented a 2011
Edison Technology Center Award for Excellence to Wayne Trail Technologies, Fort Loramie, OH, for out- standing performance in retaining and generating new jobs within the state of Ohio. The firm is credited, in a let- ter from the Ohio Senate, with creating 35 jobs in 2010. A company represen-
tative notes that its growth primarily is related to its work in developing laser technology that enables cut- ting of thin-coated foils at speeds to 10 m/sec.

Esab Welding & Cutting Under New Ownership
Colfax Corp., Fulton, MD, has acquired Charter Interna- tional plc, owner of Esab Welding & Cutting Products, as well as Howden, a manu- facturer of air- and gas-han- dling equipment. “The acqui- sition is not expected to impact Esab customers or distributors,” says Mark Elen- der, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Esab North America. Colfax owns 10 brands in the pumping and fluid-handling market.
