  Tooling Update
Planner software from Forming Tech- nologies Inc. (FTI), Burlington, Ontario, Canada. The FTI software will help BMW engineers create process plans and predict the number of operations, and then calculate die load, press size, ton- nage and energy. It also enables die cost- ing as well as calculation of severity index- es to reflect the complexity of operations for progressive and transfer dies.

Acquisition
Adds Machining Capabilities to Contract Metal Fabricator
Fabrico Inc., Oxford, MA, has acquired Johnson Tool & Manufacturing, Inc., Charlton, MA, specialists in short- to medi- um-run manufacture of high-tolerance components, assemblies, tools and gauges. The acquisition adds precision machining, prototyping, wire EDM, grind- ing and CNC milling to Fabrico’s resume. Learn more about Fabrico, a contract metal fabricator serving customers in the land-based gas turbine, semiconductor, steam-turbine and aviation industries, at www.fabricomfg.com; Johnson Tool is online at www.jtoolmfg.com.
FEA Software Upgrades Promise to Please Your Engineers
Engineering Technology Associates, Inc. (ETA), Troy, MI, has launched the lat- est version of its advanced finite element modeling solution, PreSys, part of its Inventium Suite of simulation products. The R3 release promises to deliver an improved experience for engineers who need to build complex finite element mod- els for nonlinear impact, durability, vibra- tion and thermal analysis.
PreSys 2010 R3 offers several new or improved features, including the avail- ability of Part Groups, which allow the user to drag and drop parts into a group that can be used for visualization, as well as
property and
boundary
condition def-
initions.
PreSys R3
also offers
improved surface-data handling and edit- ing features, which allow users to create or modify CAD data within the software.
And, an Auto Spotweld feature allows the user to quickly create a large number of welds at predetermined loca-
tions, which reportedly can cut spot- weld creation time in half.
