The PMA Educational Founda- assisting with pioneer company dation’s mission:
identification, evaluation and promotion.
The first round of submissions have been received and evaluated by a Steering Committee made up of PMAEF officers and staff from The Manufacturing Institute. The Foundation Board of Trustees is proud to announce the first three Metalforming Pioneer Award win- ners, who are highlighted in this issue of MetalForming magazine. They are:
• Pridgeon & Clay, Grand Rapids, MI
• E.J. Ajax, Minneapolis, MN • McGregor Metalworking
Companies, Springfield, OH
I hope you enjoy reading about
these three companies in the fol- lowing pages; they truly exemplify the principles of the Metalforming Pioneer Award. Their stories also will be told through other media outlets, including those of The Manufacturing Institute and Hitachi Foundation. And, we plan to present these pioneers’ stories in follow-up live events, roundtables and webinars in which other metal- forming companies will be invited to participate and learn.
The end result of this program will be to further the Hitachi Foun-
tion (PMAEF) received a grant
from the Hitachi Foundation in 2011 to identify and develop case studies of employers in the metal- forming industry that excel as suc- cessful businesses, through enhanced values, culture, policies, practices and investments. These are companies whose success fos- ters and is driven by skill enhance- ment and advancement opportuni- ties for their production employees.
The ultimate goal of this project is to foster direct engagement with other employers in the industry with similar values, culture, poli- cies, practices and investments that strive to meet similar goals of good businesses and good places to work. As a result of these practices, these companies are creating path- ways to reach higher levels of busi- ness success, and to also increase the earnings and skills of their lower-wage employees.
To identify and recognize these excelling metalforming companies, PMAEF has created the Metalform- ing Pioneer Award, and is collabo- rating with MetalForming maga- zine in an effort to tell the stories of these successful pioneer businesses. PMAEF also is partnering with The Manufacturing Institute, which is
“The Hitachi Foundation is uniquely focused on the roles of business in society,” says Barbara Dyer, CEO/president, The Hitachi Foundation. “Our strategy is to pro- mote employer practices that enhance business value while also boosting economic opportunities for lower-wealth Americans. Within manufacturing, the effort centers on precision metalforming and food processing. PMAEF is an excellent partner for us and we are pleased to be a part of the launch of the 2011 Metalforming Pioneer Awards. These first three examples amply demonstrate how your sec- tor’s leaders are ‘doing well’ and ‘doing good’ to the great benefit of their employees and communities.”
The next round of pioneer com- pany identification is underway. If you are a company that meets the criteria, or if you know of one, please contact me directly at dsansone@pma.org to learn how you can be recognized.
