                   Tooling Update
Tooling Technology
Bazz Houston Acquisition Expands Its Tooling Capabilities
The Bazz Houston Co., Garden Grove, CA (and Tijuana, Mexico), acquired Mark of Precision Inc., Upland, CA, a tooling design and fabrication plant that provides tools, dies, gauges, fixtures, stampings and assemblies. Bazz Houston manufactures springs, stampings, wire forms, fourslide parts and tooling.

Specialty Punch-Press Tool Eliminates Secondary Deburring
A new deburring tool from Wilson Tool Intl., White Bear Lake, MN, enables fabricators to quickly and efficiently deburr parts on a CNC punch press. Available for Trumpf or thick-turret style presses, the tool coins a small chamfer on the cut edge to accurately and effi- ciently deburr straight lines or arcs, including acute angles
and very small radii.
Wilson Tool’s ball assem-
bly design minimizes setup
and adjustment time by enabling oper- ators to adjust ball pressure without disassembling the tool. The ball assem- blies also optimize tool life when work- ing with a variety of workpiece materials. Wilson Tool: 800/328-9646; www.wilsontool.com
Surface-Treatment Success on BMW’s Large Deep-Drawing Tools
The Pulse Plasma Diffusion (PPD) special nitriding process developed by Oerlikon Balzers in Schopfheim, Ger- many (Pell City, AL), has proven suc- cessful in prolonging die life in the pro- duction of hoods at BMW Group. BMW has the PPD treatment applied to a three-part draw tool—a 13.8-metric-ton upper draw die, 5-ton punch and 3.5-ton blankholder. The resulting tools boast a functional layer with high hardness (900

Save money with smaller blank size, even on high strength steel!
Since 1998, Red Stag has engineered a cushion which has the force and controls for all the flexibility you need for any high strength steel tooling.
The graphs show actual force/dis- tance performance of the last run. To the right are curves for each of the 12 cylinders.
Tonnage and distance are entered on the tonnage screen. The 12 bars on the right represent the 12 individual cylinders used in the cushion.
A hydraulic cushion with total close loop control and programming with full control on each cylinder with the speed to change tonnage pressure and stroke eight (8) times from 3 o’clock to 6 o’clock. You now have control 360o from maximum blank holding pressure to start the draw-to-metal movement throughout the draw with a dwell on the bot- tom with higher pressure again. You can even remove all draw beads, make your blank smaller saving both steel and money.
