Inspiring Innovation
Mike Stahira
General Manager American Nickeloid Co.
Q:How do you inspire and create ways for people in your company
to innovate?
A:We recently made parts of our com- pensation package performance
based, and the initial results look very promising. We plan on continuing to improve this model to ensure that innova- tion efforts are closely aligned with compa- ny objectives.
Look familiar?
Cloud Computing
David Klotz, Senior Account Manager Plex Systems, Inc.
Q:We’re hearing a lot about Cloud computing. Is that technology a good fit for metalformers?
A:Users connect to applications over the Internet. The vendor maintains the software and securely stores the data. This model is great for metalformers, especially in the areas of
ERP and shop floor. Metalformers reduce IT costs since IT is freed from maintaining servers and databases. There are no costly and disruptive upgrades. The software continually adapts with the business needs.
Automate OEE
Mark Hatch, President Wintriss Controls Group LLC
Q:How do you automate OEE calculations?
A:You need a hardware/software system that collects the needed information automatically from every machine in your facility, such as uptime, downtime, part count, speed of the
machine, etc. Such a system also generates reports automatically, helps to identify the most time-consuming reasons for downtime and assists your process improvement initiatives such as six sigma, lean and activity-based costing.
