Metals/Coil Processing
New Feed Line to Process High-Strength Steel at Toro Plant
Coe Press Equipment, Sterling Heights, MI, has shipped a new progressive feed line, for processing high-strength steel, to The Toro Co. facility in Shakopee, MN. The
facility manufactures stampings, fabricated metal products and machined parts for assembly at other Toro facilities.
The Coe line can process coils to 24 in. wide by 6000 lb., of steel to 1⁄4-in. thick by 6-in. wide at 70-KSI yield strength. Other features include an adjustable-height mounting bracket and motorized passline height adjustment; a threading table for a 23- in. effective loop length and a power straightener with 15-HP, AC variable-speed drive. Metal Service Centers Can Log Their Customer-Support Activity via Smart Phone
Invera Corp., Houston, TX, provider of Stratix steel and metal service-center ERP software, has extended its customer-service call-logging portal to smart-phone devices such as the iPhone and Blackberry. The enhancement provides customers a convenient way to access Invera’s customer-service portal from anywhere and at any time without the need for a PC or laptop computer.
The smart-phone functions complement the firm’s existing web-based portal that allows customers to log support calls, query the Invera knowledge base on product operations, access new-product releases and support documentation, and view cus- tomer-specific correspondence. The functions will prove particularly useful to serv- ice-center staff placing support calls to Invera.

The Future of Slit-Coil Packaging
Bushman AvonTec, Milwaukee, WI, has developed the Coil-Trac coil-tracking sys- tem that tracks slit coils as they pass through each station of a packaging line. Coil- Trac is flexible and can be tailored to meet the specific needs of each customer and packaging-line configuration. Coil data and customer specifications are man- ually input as coils enter the packaging line. The system can collect a variety of key data such as customer identification, lot numbers, coil weight, required skid type and spacer patterns.
By automating the coil-packaging process, Coil-Trac facilitates efficient processing decisions and tasks, and allows for real time record updates. It pro- vides for seamless transfer of physical coils and their accompanying data. An operator can view the data on any coil at any time and at any location.
Bushman AvonTec designs and man- ufactures material-handling equipment in three product segments: below-the-hook lifting attachments for cranes, including C-hooks, coil grabs, spreader beams, sheet and plate lifters and lifting tongs; floor-based equipment such as scissor- lift tables, upenders, inverters, die carts and transfer cars; and slit-coil packag- ing lines for metal-processing facilities.
