As a member of PMA and
a stamping professional of 20 years, I find the need to congratulate you on your March 2010 editorial, specifically the “idea killers” paragraph. As my company emerges from the recession I find it challeng- ing to reorient my manage- ment team to think strategi- cally and long term. After spending 2009 in cutback mode, where maintaining a profitable balance sheet was paramount, I struggle to switch gears into growth mode to fully take advan- tage of future opportunities.
Thank you for effectively encapsulating this problem so directly.

Greenerd Press President Introduces President Obama
Tim Dining, president and CEO of Greenerd Press & Machine Co., Inc., Nashua, NH, had the distin- guished honor of introduc- ing President Barack Obama at the Town Meeting Style Forum held on Feb. 2 at Nashua North High School. In his introduction, Dining called for the need for constructive economic policies and investment incentives for small U.S. businesses.
In addition to his role with Greenerd Press, a man- ufacturer of hydraulic press
equipment, Dining also serves as chairman of the board of advisors for the New Hamp- shire Small Business Devel- opment Center and as a director for The Association for Manufacturing Technolo- gy. NTMA and PMA Announce Re-Shoring Initiative
On May 12, the National Tooling and Machining Association (NTMA), Preci- sion Metalforming Associa- tion (PMA) and Association for Manufacturing Technolo- gy (AMT) will jointly pro- duce the 2010 NTMA/PMA Contract Manufacturing Purchasing Fair. With the theme, Re-Shoring to Bring U.S. Manufacturing Jobs Back Home, the fair offers one-stop shopping where OEMs can find competitive U.S. job shops. It’s to be held at the Hyatt Regency Irvine Hotel in Irvine, CA.
The NTMA and PMA re- shoring initiative will docu- ment to large manufacturers nationwide the benefits of sourcing in the United States. More than 50 repre- sentatives from large manu- facturers are expected to attend and learn about com- petitive domestic sourcing opportunities from 200 cus- tom U.S. manufacturers.

Motoman’s Elkins Takes the Helm at the Robotic Industries Association
Dean Elkins, senior gen- eral manager of Motoman Inc., West Carrollton, OH, has been elected chairman of the Robotic Industries Association (RIA) for 2010. Elkins has served on the RIA board of directors since 2000, and on its statistics and show committees. He also moderated the associa- tion’s Robotics Industry Forum and chaired its mem- bership committee.

The Laser Institute of America (LIA) has posted all of its conference abstracts and proceedings to an online archive—more than 1500 laser-technology presenta- tions, searchable by keyword. The proceedings are avail- able for purchase for $28 ($25 for LIA members).

U.S. and Mexican Auto-Parts Associations Form Partnership
The Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG), South- field, MI, and Industria Nacional de Autopartes (INA), Mexico City, have formed a collaborative part- nership. The two groups, which represent automotive OEMs and parts manufac- turers in their respective countries, will share infor- mation and resources, and also collaborate on projects of common interest on behalf of their member companies.
