The word “try” is not in our vocabulary at Nucor.
Because innovating the steel industry is not for the faint of heart. That’s why when we set out to change the way steel was made in this country, we never let up. And still haven’t. Since 1969, we’ve found thinner and thinner ways to cast steel, reducing the size and increasing the efficiency of steel mills. Because steel that is cast into thinner sheets requires less rolling and flattening. And, therefore, not as much space or energy. In fact, our Castrip plant can now cast a slab 99.6% thinner than traditional slab casting, at about half the cost of a traditional steel mill, while reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 80%. And we’ve already opened another Castrip plant since the success of our first one. With the full intention of inventing newer ways to cast steel into even thinner sheets, more efficiently than before.
Because once again, you’re either innovating or you’re not.
