Tower Automotive Enters the Solar-Energy Business
Stirling Energy Systems (SES), Scottsdale, AZ, has contracted with Tower Auto- motive for the production and assembly of the mirror facet components of its new SunCatcher concentrating solar-power system. Tower’s experience in producing automotive exterior and structural stampings matched well with the needs of SES, company officials say.
Each SunCatcher dish includes 40 mirror facets, with each facet comprised of three major components —a stamped rib support and metal substrate, and the mirrors.
Press Room Equipment Acquires Norwalk
Norwalk Innovation Inc., manufacturers of the hori- zontal Un-Coiler for flat stock and wire, and the ver- tical Lever Lift Un-Coiler, has been acquired by Press Room Equipment Co., a division of American Prod- ucts, LLC.
Press Room Equipment manufactures equipment for press feeding, material straightening and coil han- dling, and will continue to build and support Norwalk’s product mix from its manu- facturing plant in Spring- field, MO.
Allied Innovations Acquires IP of Dominion Power Press
The intellectual property of Dominion Power Press
Equipment Ltd., Burlington, Ontario, Canada, has been acquired by Allied Innova- tions Inc., Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Allied has secured Dominion’s job files, make and model numbers, equip- ment serial numbers, elec- trical schematics, mechanical clutch and brake conversion drawings, preventive-main- tenance schedules, parts lists and mechanical-alter- ation histories from work performed by Dominion.
Machinery sold and serviced by Dominion Power Press included press and machinery guards, mechanical, servo and hydraulic presses, clutches and brakes, conveyors, coil-handling equipment, die-change and die-han- dling equipment and con- trols. Allied Innovations’ technicians are prepared to offer rebuild and mainte- nance services for any equipment sold or serviced by Dominion.
Ohio Company Named Exclusive Distributor for Cleaning/Degreasing Equipment
Godfrey & Wing Inc., Aurora, OH, a manufacturer of vacuum-casting impreg- nation and surface-prepara- tion equipment, has been appointed exclusive North American distributor for MecWash Systems, based in Gloucestershire, UK. MecWash designs and man- ufactures aqueous cleaning and degreasing equipment for metallic and plastic components. Its technology combines rotational wash- ing, high-pressure jetting, and hot-air and vacuum dry-
ing, and eliminates the use of trichloroethylene, methyl- ene chloride perchloroethyl- ene, n-propyl bromide and other VOCs.
Motoman Partners with Control-Software Vendor
Industrial-robot manufac- turer Motoman Inc., Dayton, OH, has partnered with robotics-software provider Agile Plant, Inc., Austin,
TX, to provide an optimized control package for fabricat- ing cells using dual-arm robots. The partnership will integrate Agile Planet’s Kinematix manipulation software with Motoman’s dual-arm and other robot models.
Waterjet-Cutting Technology to Become Part of Boeing-Sponsored Research Facility
The University of Sheffield Advanced Manu- facturing Research Centre (AMRC) with Boeing, Cat- cliffe (Rotherham) UK, has partnered with waterjet-cut- ting equipment manufacturer WardJet, to further develop its expertise in advanced- materials cutting and form- ing. Richard Ward, owner and president of WardJet, Tallmadge, OH, has been appointed to the board of directors for the AMRC.
