Coil-Processing Equipment Provider Forms Wind-Energy Business Unit
Automatic Feed Co., Napoleon, OH, a supplier of high-speed coil-processing equipment, has formed a new business unit—AFCo Precision Manufacturing— to align its engineering, manufacturing and quality operating systems to serve the needs of the wind-ener- gy industry.
The company expects to become a reliable supplier of fabricated and machined components, and special machined details. The new business unit recently joined the Great Lakes Wind Network.
Manufacturing for the Renewable-Energy Markets Triggers $3.3 Million Expansion
Kalt Mfg. Co., North Ridgeville, OH, plans to invest $3.3 million over the next three years to keep up with demand as the compa- ny continues to successfully earn work serving clients in sectors such as wind and renewable energy.
The company offers pre- cision machining, rebuild- ing services and engineering support, and plans to add 16,000 sq. ft. onto its 38,000-sq.-ft. building.

More Than 30 Percent
Greenheck Fan Co., Schofield, WI, broke ground on a 22,000-sq.-ft. addition to its manufacturing plant in Frankfurt, KY. The addi- tion will allow Greenheck, a manufacturer of air-move- ment and control equip- ment, to increase manufac- turing capacity of dampers and louvers for commercial, industrial and institutional applications.
New Aluminum- Fabricating Plant to Build Wind-Tower Equipment
Zarges Aluminum Sys- tems GmbH will begin con- struction of a manufactur- ing facility in Amarillo, TX, later this year. The 80,000- sq-.ft. plant, to be complet- ed by the end of the year, will manufacture aluminum internal equipment for wind towers—ladders, work plat- forms, scaffolding and the like. The plant will be locat- ed on more than 8.5 acres in the Amarillo Economic Development Corp.’s Cen- terPort Business Park.
Zarges is working with Amarillo College to develop welding, technical training and robotics and automa- tion programs to help train its future workforce.
Grant to Aerospace Manufacturer to Fund Development Work for Wind-Turbine Industry
Kelly Aerospace Thermal Systems LLC, Willoughby, OH, will receive a $350,000 grant from the state of Ohio for further development of
de-icing technology targeted for use on wind-turbine blades as well as jet-engine blades.
The firm manufactures the Wind Turbine Ice Pro- tection System, an electro- thermal system that can be adapted for use on any wind- turbine design. Its grant is part of a $40.1-million grant package awarded to Ohio companies by the Ohio Third Frontier Commission.

Now that Fiat has closed the deal to take control of most of Chrysler’s assets, creating a new company called Chrysler Group LLC, the focus of lower-tier North American automotive sup- pliers must shift to working with the three Fiat suppliers firmly established in North America. They are parts maker Magneti Marelli, casting specialist Teksid, and robot integrator and automation house Comau.
Metalformers in particu- lar must cozy up to Magneti Marelli, which builds elec- tronic systems, exhaust assemblies, lighting prod- ucts, and powertrain and suspension systems. The firm operates several facili- ties in Farmington Hills, MI, as well as plants in Sanford, NC (powertrain), Kingsport, TN (suspension systems), and three plants in Mexico that manufacture lighting and electronic systems.
