Prime Controls, Dayton, OH, a manufacturer of double-metal sheet sensors and controls for the metalforming industry, has launched a newly redesigned website to help customers match the right sensor solution to the application at hand.

Cosma Coil Lines Marry Coe Equipment and Siemens Controls

Coe Press Equipment, Sterling Heights, MI, has installed three fully automatic coil lines at the new Magna Cosma facility in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. The lines are equipped with Siemens controls and software to enable programmability of all functions, including coil centering, edge-guide width, passline height, air-pressure settings, straightener-roll depth settings and all operating parameters. Two of the lines handle coils to 72 in. wide and 60,000 lb.; one feeds a WIA 800-ton progressive-die press, the other an Aida 1000-ton transfer press. The third line can process coils to 48 in. wide by 50,000 lb., and feeds a WIA 400-ton progressive-die press.

Operators Revel in Hydraulic-Press Controls Refresh

Press controls running with obsolete HMI (human-machine interface) software that would only run on Windows NT created huge productivity hurdles at metalformer Toledo Metal Spinning Company (TMS, Toledo, OH). Only heroic efforts by the firm’s IT technicians and press operators enabled it to continue to meet customer requirements, as hydraulic-press uptime suffered mightily due to control problems. We’re talking monthly shutdowns, or even more frequently, due to glitches in press-control software and hardware experienced by the 1998-vintage presses—250- and 400-ton models.

Aging Presses Ripe for Renewal

Canada has been a good hunting ground for tool and die shop X-Cel Tooling, Iron Ridge, WI. That’s where the metal-stamping tool and die shop has foraged recently for two used big-bed high-tonnage mechanical presses. The two newly refurbished presses have greatly extended the firm’s die-tryout capabilities, allowing it to bid on and earn contracts heretofore unattainable.
