Manufacturing Careers Offer the Same Opportunities that Women Seek
So finds a recent survey of more than 870 women by the Women in Manufacturing (WiM) organization, the results of which were presented at last week’s fourth annual WiM Summit in Schaumburg, IL. Among the survey’s findings:

  • 82 percent of women working in manufacturing report that the field offers the interesting and challenging work they seek, and more than half agree that manufacturing is a leading industry for job growth; but
  • 68 percent of young women say that they are not likely to consider manufacturing as a career path, and only 24 percent believe that the number of management positions available in manufacturing is comparable to those in other industries.

Here are complete survey results.

> New Tool Calculates the Made in America Savings
Unveiled last week by a couple of professors at the University of Lausanne, and promoted by the U.S. Dept. of Commerce (DoC): a new tool manufacturers can use to calculate the potential savings they can realize by manufacturing in America. Called the Cost Differential Frontier (CDF), the tool represents the second iteration of the DoC’s Access Costs Everywhere (ACE) tool introduced in 2013.

ACE 1.0 provided manufacturers with 10 cost and risk factors to weigh as they decided where to locate their operations. Now, CDF (or ACE 2.0) identifies the cost savings from reshoring based on factors such as inventory, forecast accuracy and timing.

Here’s a blog with more details on the CDF, posted by Susan Helper, chief economist with the DoC.

> Webinar: Top Three Business Benefits of Manufacturing ERP
Manufacturers face increasing pressure to meet customer demands while managing profitability and growth. This webinar focuses on bringing together the benefits of manufacturing agility with a single source of business visibility, all delivered with a flexible cloud business model that provides platform scalability without added costs.

Join Stu Johnson from Plex and Mark Davidson from LNS Research as they explore the challenges faced by manufacturers and how the alignment of people and processes, coupled with modern ERP/MOM software technology, can help businesses focus on what they do best–building worldclass products consistently and profitably.

  • Learn how capturing the "manufacturing moment" can improve manufacturing agility.
  • See how faster visibility into your plant floor from the top floor helps you operationalize business data for improved results.
  • Look to the cloud to connect your value chain without additional software licenses or IT headaches.
  • Explore three real-world case-study examples of how these approaches are working today.

Consistent Stock Lubrication Systems
Nordson EFD
Watch this in action. The Nordson EFD MicroCoat® system sprays lubricants in a fine, evenly distributed mist. The non-contact system uses Low-Volume, Low-Pressure (LVLP) technology to provide a consistent application that significantly reduces oil consumption when compared to other lubrication processes used in metal stamping.
High-Speed In-Die Installation System
Watch it here! –The AUTORIV A-100 was developed to offer OEMs and suppliers a method of high volume fastener installation In-Die. This eliminates secondary operations such as welding of fasteners and offline small parts assembly.
