Benchmark your Application of Enterprise-Management Software
Wonder how your company stacks up against others when it comes to use of ERP and other shop-management software? If so, Mint Jutras invites readers of this e-newsletter to participate in its research project on the current state of enterprise-solution implementation. The objective: To investigate goals and challenges, preferences and status of the business solution manufactures are using to run their businesses.

Participants in the project will get to share survey results in the form of a downloadable eBook. While contact information is entirely optional, the company does require a valid e-mail address in order to deliver the results. But, it pledges to not share contact information and to keep individual responses strictly confidential.

Click here to take the survey and receive the results, compliments of PMA and Mint Jutras.

> Is the Offshoring-Reshoring Teeter-Totter Still Tipping the Wrong Way?
Researchers at A.T. Kearney seem to believe so, according to their latest U.S. Reshoring Index. It finds that for the fourth consecutive year, reshoring of manufacturing to the United States in 2015 lagged offshoring activities.

“In 2015, there will be 12 cents of U.S.-bound offshore production for every dollar of domestic manufacturing output,” the report notes. The data, say researchers, confirms that offshoring seems to be gathering steam. And, the report adds, even those markets noted for recent reshoring activity (fabricated metals, appliances, electronics etc.) also show a significant increase in offshoring activity.

Other factors at play, as explained in the report, include nearshoring to Mexico and relocation of work performed in China to other lower-cost Asian countries.

> Protect your Company from Cyber Attacks
Industrial control systems are increasingly being targeted by cyber attackers, threatening U.S. manufacturers and the country’s infrastructure. So warned a U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security official at the S4 Security Conference, held recently in Miami, FL.

Cyber attacks in the critical manufacturing sectors nearly doubled in fiscal 2015 (October 2014-September 2015) year over year. Among the sectors covered—automakers, aviation equipment and producers of machinery. The number-one culprit in all of this are e-mail scams called spear-phishing, which allow attackers unauthorized access to sensitive data. Here’s additional information, along with a link to a recently published paper from Homeland Security—Seven Strategies to Defend Industrial Control Systems.
