India…More than IT
India, known for its role in information technology, is gaining traction as a manufacturing center. Why? Harvard Business Review provides some reasons:

“India is the third-largest economy in purchasing power parity after the U.S. and China, it has a large population of engineers and factory workers, its intellectual property is widely respected, and it is easy to find English-speaking managers there.”

According to the article, Understanding the Rise of Manufacturing in India, with North American executives increasingly looking to expand their manufacturing supply chains beyond China, India is poised to become a major player.

Machining Without Coolant
Replace messy mist systems and improve dry machining with clean, cold air! EXAIR's Cold Gun Aircoolant System improves tolerances, tool life and production rates by cooling with 20°F air. The Cold Gun is ideal for tool sharpening, drill and cutter grinding, milling, band sawing, more.
Tonnage monitor includes Signature Analysis
The Helm PTM-4500 Loadgard combines tonnage monitoring, signature Analysis and SPC charting with batch, part counters in one system. With full-color touch screen and Resolver input, the PTM provides thru-the-stroke monitoring with high and low tracking alarms for all types of presses. FABTECH Booth S4556
Stock Lubrication
Cleans Up Its Act

Unist Stock lubrication can be the ugly side of metal forming with messy presses and sloppy, wet floors. Luckily, those days are over. Uni-Roller systems from Unist use patented, internally-fed rollers to deliver smooth and consistent lube to one or both sides of the stock with no over-application or mess.

> Manufacturing Hubs Hold Promise for U.S. Innovation, Jobs
Dusting off a model from the Reagan era, New York and other states are establishing manufacturing hubs to stimulate innovation and reinvigorate U.S. manufacturing.

“In 1987, semiconductor manufacturers and the federal government formed a partnership to regain U.S. competitiveness with Japan,” reports the Democrat & Chronicle of Rochester, NY. “The seed money came from a Defense Department grant provided by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). That partnership, called Sematech, was a success.”

That model now is finding use in industries such as 3D printing, lightweight-metals manufacturing and wide-bandwidth semiconductors “in hopes of recovering manufacturing jobs that once sustained cities in upstate New York and Rust Belt states,” the publication reports.
