 Schuler Acquires Italian Press Manufacturer Farina Presse
Led by UI Labs, a university and industry collaboration, DMDII is a net- work of 14 institutes, each focusing on a specific area of technology. Its vision is to fully develop and demonstrate each area before commercial deploy- ment. Simio's collaboration with DMDII brings simulation to the forefront of cut- ting-edge projects, bringing benefits throughout the product lifecycle.
Schuler has acquired Farina Presse, an Italian manufacturer of presses and forging lines. With its acquisition of the engineering specialist, the Germany-based Schuler Group has rounded out its
own product portfolio in the
 field of forging and single- stroke presses. Farina Presse will gain access to Schuler’s global distribution network for its products.

Welser Profile Acquires Superior Roll Forming

Welser Profile GmbH, an Austrian provider of custom cold-rolled formed sections and tubes used in Austria and Germany, has announced its acquisition of Superior Roll Forming in Valley City, OH. The move is seen by Welser executives as an important step toward gaining a North American presence and will serve as “the cornerstone for future activities on the continent,” according to a company press release.
Rockford Systems Announces Partnership with Unitrol Electronics
Rockford Systems, LLC, Rockford, IL, a provider of machine-safeguarding products and services, has announced a distribution partnership with Unitrol Electronics, Inc., Northbrook, IL. Rockford will provide sales, installation and technical support for Unitrol’s Soft Touch Pinch-Point Safety System for spot-welder and pneumatic-riveter customers. The passive, fail-safe system, designed to enhance worker safety and help avoid pinch- point injuries, prevents equipment from cycling if the system detects fingers in the point- of-operation area.
CTC Wins Military Contract
China Welcomes Daimler’s Ninth Fagor Arrasate Blanking Line
The United States Army Tank Auto- motive Research Development and Engineering Center (TARDEC) has awarded Concurrent Technologies Corp. (CTC), Johnstown, PA, a 5-year $7.45 million contract to help design and man- ufacture Hull Frame Body Cab prototype hulls in support of the Next Generation Combat Vehicle. CTC has been support- ing TARDEC with joining solutions since 2001.
Daimler, the German automotive company, once again has collaborated with Spain’s Fagor Arrasate on a dual-servo steel and aluminum blanking line. The ninth such line was installed at the Beijing Benz facility in Beijing, China, and placed into full production this past January. Fagor Arrasate also will supply Daimler’s 10th dual servo blanking line at its Bremen, Germany, facility, with the line expected to go live by year’s end.
NASG Acquires Alex Products
Newcomb Spring Launches Wire-Bending Manufacturing Services
North American Stamping Group (NASG), a leading Tier-Two automotive stamping and assembly supplier, announced its acquisition of Alex Prod- ucts (AP). With three manufacturing facili- ties and a technical center in Ohio, AP is a provider of critical seat structures and components.
Newcomb Spring Corp., Alpharetta, GA, has announced the addition of custom wire bending to the company’s manufacturing capabilities. As a manufacturer of custom springs, wire forms and metal stampings, Newcomb Spring has invested in CNC-manufacturing technologies and advanced quality-control systems for wire bending. CNC automation gives Newcomb Spring the capability to bend wire with repeatable accuracy. Materials range from standard steels to premium exotic alloys, in shapes ranging from round to rectangular, to special-section.
The combined companies will total 10 manufacturing facilities, two technical centers, and one sales office, with more than 1.6 million sq. ft., 2000 associates and $450 million in annual sales.
