Process Simulation for Bulk Metalforming Software: Deform V11.2
A New Dawn
This month, MetalForming takes a look at recent advancements in software that allow for accurate as well as time- and cost-saving die design and simulation. In April, we’ll present real-life cases where die designers, builders and metalformers put the software to productive use.

Deform V11.2, from Scientific Forming Technologies Corp., is the latest version of process-simulation software for bulk metalforming. Bulk-forming simulations are ideally suited for applications where sheetforming-simulation technology falls short, according to company officials. The most common applications include small- to medium- sized metal parts where thickness variation, fine feature detail, thermal effects and through-thickness behavior are deemed critical.
Deform, employed successfully in a range of deep-drawing, stamping, coining, blanking, ironing, bending and joining applications, finds use in predicting thinning, work-hardening, springback, and the risk of cracking in drawing and stamping progressions. It also is ideal for modeling of blanking opera- tions, where users optimize shearing behavior while mini- mizing burrs and other undesirable features. Advanced large- model support allows coining operations to be resolved with fine feature detail. During mechanical-joining analyses
An airbag bracket undergoes process simulation, which is ideal for predicting thinning, work-hardening, springback and the risk of cracking in stamping progressions.
