High-Productivity Fourslide Machine Promises Reduced Setup Time
to completely regulate production processes and automation tasks. Cam-timing changes can be programmed via the control panel in less than 10 sec., whereas performing the same function on older machines reportedly can take as long as 8 hr.
demanding production runs. Double-cut carbide burrs are ideal for quickly removing surface stock, weld splatter, deburring and chamfering applications, along with medium to light cleaning.
Bihler of America, Phillipsburg, NJ, showcased its 4-Slide NC, a next–gener- ation fourslide machine, at FABTECH 2017.
Company officials note faster run rates with the new machine over older technology as well as the ability to run millions of parts without machine adjustments. Another plus: Newly hired operators reportedly can be trained to run the machine within one day. Bihler of America: www.4slide-nc.com
The specially designed geometries of these burrs result from growing demands for stainless steel, mild steel, cast steel and composites applications, and offer rapid stock removal and long product life. The carbide burrs can be used on hand- held tools such as Norton’s die grinder or automated CNC machines. The Norton carbide-burr line encompasses 30 different parts and is offered in seven types includ- ing; SA cylindrical without end cut; SB cylindrical with end cut; SC ball-nosed cylindrical; SD ball shape; SF ball-nosed tree; SG tree with taper; and SL ball- nosed cone. A kit containing the most popular five burr types, for smaller job requirements, is available.

“The number-one benefit all of our customers have been talking about is the reduction in setup time,” says Max Linder, the company’s director of sales and mar- keting. “Both setup and changeovers can be completed in a fraction of the time as compared to older fourslide machines.”
Carbide Burrs for Surface Removal in Demanding Applications
A typical producer of metal fasteners can phase out six existing machines for each newly installed 4 Slide-NC, according to company officials, with the added benefit of reduced footprint due to the need of only one machine instead of six.
