Fiber-Laser Cutting Machine Boasts Carbon-Fiber Carriage
Concealed-Head Self-Clinching Studs and Standoffs
Prima Power’s new Laser Genius 2D fiber-laser cutting machines boast the innovative application of synthetic granite (for the frame) and carbon fiber (for the carriage). Linear motors on the X and Y axes reportedly yield a 15-percent increase in productivity compared with conventional drive systems. A high- brilliance 6-kW fiber laser delivers the beam to a cutting head that features a single-lens strategy, impact-protection system, high-dynamic focal axis with 35-mm stroke, and lens drawer with quick-alignment system.
New PEM concealed-head self-clinching studs and standoffs from PennEngineering install permanently in thin sheetmetal assemblies to provide strong and reusable threads for mating hardware while preserving a smooth and unmarred appearance on the side of the sheet opposite installation. The concealed- head feature satisfies strict ingress protection requirements in assemblies where a sheet must remain completely sealed from air, liquid, dust, gases and other potential contaminants.
Among available options: Smart Cut, for fast cutting of thin
The fasteners install in steel or aluminum sheets as thin as 0.062 in. Studs—aluminum or stainless steel—are available in thread sizes 4-40 to 10-32 and M3 to M5, and in lengths from 0.250 to 1 in. and 6 to 25 mm. Stainless-steel standoffs are

sheets (to 5 mm thick) with reduced cycle times; Max Cut, for fast cutting of medium-thick sheets; and Night Cut, for intensive production using enhanced piercing- and cutting-process safety.
The cabin comes in two versions: a lean design to minimize footprint, and an open design with fully opening sliding doors to optimize accessibility.
