Opens Learning Facility
Lucas-Milhaupt has launched www.brazingbook.com, based on the original publica- tion of “The Brazing Book.” The original publication, released nearly 30 years ago, has long been a tool for both the novice brazer and the sea- soned engineer.
The Hobart Institute of Welding Technology (HIWT) opened the Next Generation Welder Learning Facility on its Troy, OH, campus. The new 16,000-plus-sq.-ft. building began hosting classes in late- October 2016 at the 13-acre campus that has trained more than 100,000 welders.
New Plating Line for Gatto Industrial Platers
The facility features three technically advanced class- rooms that seat as many as 120 students, and contains high-tech audio-visual training aids. The facility also houses a dedicated nondestructive lab- oratory and classroom for hands-on liquid-penetrant and magnetic-particle inspection and training. Additionally, the facility boasts a large welder performance-qualification lab- oratory for destructive testing. The new facility will enhance the student learning experience for welder skill and technical training, as well as qualifica- tion testing and certification services.
The new mobile-compatible website better suits the needs of customers, according to company officials, with its mis- sion to expand the applica- tions of brazing by relaying the many advantages of it as a metal-joining method, while being realistic about its limita- tions. The site includes sci- ence behind the process as well as fundamentals and tips. An overview of the many peo- ple and industries using braz- ing techniques to increase their manufacturing efficien- cies also is included.
Gatto Industrial Platers, Inc., Chicago, IL, installed a new, larger zinc-nickel plating line. The line enables Gatto, a provider of zinc and zinc-nickel plating and aluminum chro- mating for the automotive, agricultural, electrical and rail- road industries, to plate both large parts and assemblies as well as high-volume orders of smaller pieces. This added plating capacity also provides quicker turnaround times for customers.
Arisa’s large-capacity prod- uct offering continues to expand. In addition to the 5000-ton servo press, the company has received an order for a 4500-ton mechani- cal transfer press destined for a Michigan stamping plant, with an expected production startup of early-2018.

The equipment addition adds to Alliance Steel’s exist- ing flat-roll capabilities, includ- ing slitting, leveling, multi- blanking and cold reduction.
The press will feature an Arisa-designed transfer mech- anism, allowing high-tensile material to travel through the die space at high production rates while maintaining precise part tolerances required by Gestamp. In addition, the Arisa turnkey system will include fully integrated controls, pro- duction software and automat- ed quick-die-changing units.
Lucas-Milhaupt, based in Milwaukee, WI, supplies braz- ing and soldering products and services.

The plating tank on the new line measures 30 in. wide and 60 in. deep, and its large size enables Gatto to plate parts and assemblies to 12 ft. long and weighing to 1800 lb.
Based in Logroño, Spain, Arisa was acquired by Nidec Minster in 2015.

This line features Red Bud’s SureGrip technology and is capable of a 40-ft. stretch in a cycle time of less than 8 sec. The stretcher- leveler is complemented by two inline Bradbury E-Drive
Multi-national automotive stamper Gestamp Automacion will take delivery of the press at its Bielfeld, Germany, facili- ty where it is anticipated that full-scale production will begin in April 2017.
Wilson Tool International, White Bear Lake, MN, has named Kelli Williams its marketing director. Wilson Tool provides tooling solutions for sheetmet- al-fabricating machinery.
