Aro Metal Stamping, Inc., Roselle, IL, has received national certification as a Women’s Business Enterprise by the Women’s Business Development Center–Chica- go, a regional certifying part- ner of the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council. The certification process included an in-depth review of the metal stampings and assemblies business as well as a site inspection. Though women comprise 47 percent of the U.S. workforce, they hold only 27 percent of manu- facturing jobs. Aro Metal Stamping is an exception, as 50 percent of its workforce is female.
Kirin Manufacturing, Tuc- son, AZ, announced that it has received qualification as a cer- tified aerospace supplier to the International Aerospace Quality Standard AS9100C. With the announcement, the company is now certified to offer precision sheetmetal- fabricated products to both civil and military aviation and aerospace markets.

with the ISO 14001 stan- dards. That includes discover- ing areas for reduction in energy usage and other resource expenditures, reduc- ing environmental liability and risk, and helping to maintain reliable compliance with leg- islative and regulatory require- ments.
Erica Wiegel, president of Aro Metal Stamping, was invit- ed to participate as a panelist in the first-ever Championing Women in Manufacturing event held on June 3 in Chica- go. The purpose of this event was to connect women who work in the manufacturing field, in order to promote man- ufacturing as a viable career option and to promote a con- nected female manufacturing workforce.
This new standard builds on the ISO 9001:2008 stan- dard with additional require- ments necessary to respond to the unique regulatory, safe- ty, quality and reliability requirements of the aviation and space sector.
At the event, Wiegel shared her advice for women in man- ufacturing: “Find a mentor, join groups, volunteer, ask questions and never be afraid to make mistakes.” She also offered insights earned during her career at ARO and former- ly Wiegel Tool Works, saying, “In manufacturing, you must innovate to grow and you must grow to survive.”
“This international certifi- cation and the listing on the OASIS database for certified aerospace suppliers is a sig- nificant milestone for Kirin Manufacturing,” says Earl Williams, Kirin vice president of operations. “As part of the aerospace-industry supply chain, quality is critical and our products are now officially approved to reliably meet industry requirements.”
