Ultrax 257 eliminates that problem by facil- itating uniform application of zinc phosphate, which creates a corrosion-resistant barrier on mixed-metal frames, engine cradles, control arms, linkages and other underbody parts exposed to moisture, road salt, grav- el and other hazards. Users also gain improved phosphate coverage on and around welded seams and other zones affected by heat during welding and man- ufacturing, even after significant bath aging.
Other features: The descaler emits no fumes, slows iron-build in the descale tank for longer bath life, and produces less sludge than standard acid-pickle descal- ing systems, say company officials. The result is minimal waste, low disposal costs and a safe operating environment.

Outokumpu Helps Develop Award-Winning Fuel Tank
A stainless-steel fuel tank co-devel- oped by metal-sheet supplier Outokumpu received the New Applications Award from the International Stainless Steel Forum (ISSF) in the Best New Development Award category at the ISSF Annual Conference in Hong Kong, China.
Outokumpu, headquartered in Espoo, Finland, and the Swedish fuel-system company TechROi Fuel Systems partnered on the innovative tank, with stainless- steel properties that make it a competitive alternative to plastic tanks. Use of Out- okumpu’s HyTens stainless-steel grade allowed thin walls and tailored strength, making the tank about 6 lb. lighter than a conventional plastic tank, thus reducing overall vehicle weight.
According to the ISSF, the winning con- cept provides a combination of good design, appropriate material selection, engineering expertise and sufficient deliv- ery reliability. The stainless-steel provides superior crashworthiness and does not require surface treatment or maintenance, according to Outokumpu officials. Outokumpu: www.outokumpu.com
