NIST Awards $7.8 Million in Advanced Manufacturing Grants

Hyson to Host Metalforming Symposium
The U.S. Commerce Depart- ment’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) announced 16 awards totaling $7.8 million to acceler- ate growth of advanced manu- facturing in the United States. The grants will support indus- try-driven consortia in develop- ing research plans and chart- ing collaborative actions to solve high-priority technology challenges.
The new AMTech-funded projects span a variety of industries and technologies, from next-generation gas tur- bines and aerospace manu- facturing to hybridized semi- conductor and synthetic- biology devices and glass manufacturing.
Talan was recognized in all three categories, particularly in sustainability, producing components that help the company’s customers become more energy efficient through the use of solar energy and LED lighting, according to Talan officials.
Hyson will host an interac- tive event featuring presenta- tions, discussions and hands- on demonstrations of technology related to the form- ing of advanced high-strength steels at its Innovation and Development Center in Brecksville, OH, on September 22. Also on the agenda: a panel discussion with industry experts including Dr. Hyunok Kim (EWI), Jim Landowski (Komatsu), Eric Kam (Auto- Form), Dean Kanelos (Nucor), Peter Ulintz (PMA) and Darrell Quander (Hyson).
