The advantage to using memory-free
“Customers specify 17-4 because of its ability to be age-hardened, as well as for its high strength and corrosion resist- ance,” says Lou Kern, senior vice pres- ident for Outokumpu Stainless Bar. “But many of our customers were looking for the premium machining perform- ance in 17-4 that they have come to expect in our specialty grades.” The
result: 17-4 Prodec in bar form. Testing has shown that the new mate- rial, when compared to standard 17-4 stainless steel, not only offers improved machining characteristics but also deliv- ers optimum chip formation and reduced tool wear. Outokumpu 17-4 Prodec is
steel: Plasma, laser and flame-cutting equipment can run faster and more con- sistently without having to slow down or stop to deal with springback or warping issues. Users can enjoy greater yields and improved efficiency.

Next-Gen E-Coating Comes to MetoKote Facility in Ohio
PPG Industries, Pittsburgh, PA, announced that its new Powercron Epic electrocoating process will soon make its North American debut at the MetoKote facility in Lima, OH. The process produces coatings that cure at temperatures as low as 320 F, compared to traditional cationic-epoxy coatings that cure at 350- 375 F. Curing at a lower temperature reduces energy costs and related carbon emissions, and enables more uniform film builds on complex parts, say PPG officials. Further, Powercron Epic coat- ings are free of tin, bismuth and other heavy-metal-based compounds.
