Weber Specialties Planning Expansion
A 30,000-sq.-ft. expan- sion is in the works at metal- forming company Weber Spe- cialties Co., Schoolcraft, MI, specialists in metal stamp- ing, fabricating, tool and die build, assembly, welding and powder coating. The firm recently acquired 8.5 acres of land across the street from its headquarters facility. The expansion allows Weber to increase its assembly and value-added offerings, while
its existing headquarters building focuses on engineer- ing, stamping and tool and die.
IPG Engineers to Use Laser-Machining Center to Study Aerospace Applications for Laser Drilling
Prima Power Laserdyne, Champlin, MN, has sold a Laserdyne 795 XS six-axis laser-machining center to IPG Photonics for use at its facili- ty in Russia. Engineers will configure the machine with a variety of IPG fiber lasers to study percussion and trepan- ning of aerospace-quality holes. “This combination may be a game changer for aerospace manufacturing,” says Laserdyne vice presi- dent of sales Mark Barry.

Murata Machinery USA, Inc., Charlotte, NC, has hired Dan Baker as central region- al sales manager. In addition to the central-U.S. states, he’ll oversee sales in Alber- ta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan, Canada. Rick Dorman is appointed west- ern regional sales manager for the fabrication division. Murata manufactures turret punch presses and punch- plasma hybrid machines, software and automation equipment.
