Manufacturers hoping to dial into the federal con- tracting process have a new online resource to turn to— Farsmarterbids.com, which includes a comprehensive database of regulations and
a library of government-pro- curement resources. The site’s regulation database includes FARS (Federal Acquisition Regulations), DFARS (Dept. of Defense FARS), military standards and others. Also included are spending forecasts, prime and subcontractor lists and Recovery Act infor- mation as it relates to bid- ding on government contracts.
Certifications
By the end of April 2010, Oberg Industries Co. will add more than 6000 sq. ft. to its manufacturing plant in Costa Rica, enlarg- ing the facility to 21,000 sq. ft., partly as a result of its growth in the medical- device market. The facility also just achieved ISO 9001:2008 registration, a first step toward meeting its 2010 growth objectives, according to Oberg presi- dent and CEO Robert Wag- ner. Oberg, headquartered near Pittsburgh, PA, is working toward ISO 13485:2003 certification by year end.
ACS Precision LLC, Mer- cersburg, PA, received its certification to ISO 9001:2008. ACS provides fabrication and contract- manufacturing services including CNC laser cutting (using a Mitsubishi 2512 LXP 4030D 48 by 96-in. machine), waterjet cutting and machining, as well as AWS-certified welding.
Metal fabricator Ohio Laser LLC, Plain City, OH, earned ISO 9001:2008 reg- istration. The firm provides advanced metrology, laser
cutting and other fabricat- ing services including weld- ing, waterjet cutting, bend- ing, machining and heat treating. It recently installed a new 3D laser-scanning system for inspection of formed and assembled products as large as 48 by 48 in. in a single scan.

Bob Crossken has been named national sales man- ager for Bunting Magnetics Co., Newton, KS. The firm manufactures magnetic sep- aration systems, material- handling equipment and more.
The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) appointed Lawrence W. Kavanagh president of its Steel Market Development Institute (SMDI). Kavanagh had been AISI’s vice presi- dent of environment and technology. The SMDI aims to collaborate with steel consumers to deliver steel- intensive solutions to the marketplace. Kavanagh suc- ceeds David Jeanes, retiring after spending 34 years with AISI. AISI also appointed Joseph R. Vehec senior director of collabora- tive research and develop- ment. Vehec previously served AISI as director of the technology roadmap program.
MC Machinery Canada, Richmond Hill, Ontario, hired Darren Carroll as direct sales manager, to focus primarily on Ontario and Quebec for sales of multiple Mitsubishi product lines, including EDM, laser and waterjet systems.
