ASAP Design Acquires Assets of Mercury Metal Craft
Prototype and short-run metal stamper ASAP Design Inc., Roseville, MI, has acquired the assets of Mer- cury Metal Craft, also in Roseville, to better serve its customers in the automo- tive, aerospace and military industries. Now called ASAP Design/Mercury Metal Forming, the company houses more than 50 hydraulic and mechanical presses from 5 to 800 tons, and also offers manual and robotic welding, five-axis laser cutting, and press- brake bending.
Vertical Integration Leads Manufacturer into Powder Coating
IFH Group, Rock Falls, IL, a manufacturer of fuel and hydraulic oil tanks, as well as fluid-storage and dispensing systems, acquired Williams Powder Coating, Prophetstown, IL, and created a new division dubbed Powder Coaters, LLC. The acquisition allows the company to powder coat fabricated vehicle chassis, large weldments such as tanks and trailers, and other metal-fabricated products larger than 5- by 7-ft. square and 10 ft. long.

Stamtec, Inc. promoted Patrick Thomas to service manager at the firm’s main service center in Manches- ter, TN, and also certified several long-standing dealers

Michigan Fabricator Adds 6000-W Laser- Cutting Machine
Metal fabricator Pro- totech Laser, Inc., Chester- field, MI, has installed a Trumpf TruLaser 5030 6-kW laser-cutting machine to enhance its capabilities for customers in the defense, automotive and other indus- trial markets. The machine can cut mild and stainless steel to 1 in. thick and alu- minum to 0.60 in.
Martinrea to Expand Mississippi Stamping/ Assembly Plant
Martinrea Automotive Structures has broken ground on a new 53,000- sq.-ft. addition to its plant in Verona, MS, and plans to add 50 new jobs when the expansion work is complet- ed later this year. The $7.7 million investment will go toward a new crane bay and added tool and die storage capacity, as the plant takes on new production work. It’s the company’s fourth expan- sion of the facility since taking it over from Thyssenkrupp Fabco in
2003. The facility manufac- tures underbody stampings and assemblies for Nissan and Honda.
Die Concepts Takes New Name to Reflect its Evolution
Wisconsin Metal Parts, Inc. is the new name taken by Die Concepts, Inc., to better reflect the Waukesha, WI contract manufacturer’s capabilities. Once primarily a die designer and builder, the company also provides prototype CNC-machined components, metal stamp- ings and fabricated-sheet- metal parts. Among its press inventory are two 30-ton Bruderer high-speed presses and a 200-ton Komatsu gap-frame press.

Beckwood Press Co., St. Louis, MO, hired Dan Steinkamp as Hastings product manager, following the company’s partnership agreement with Hastings Manufacturing, Millstadt, IL, to support its heat trans- fer and hot stamping department. Beckwood, which manufactures hydraulic presses and auto- mated systems, also manu- factures hydroforming presses for Pryer Technology Group, and hot-stamping presses for Hastings.
KMT Waterjet Systems, Baxter Springs, KS, appointed Brett Lawrie vice president of sales and mar- keting. The company manu- factures ultra-high-pressure pumps, nozzles and other components for waterjet- cutting systems.
