   New Controls + Sensors =
Pressroom Profitability
For stampers dealing with the effects of the skilled-labor shortage, including brain drain and lost shop-floor productivity, advances in press controls and the expanded use of sensors promise to multiply the capabilities of staff already on the floor. In addition, the advances described here promise to extend the careers of older team members and help attract new hires.

In this application, optical sensors monitor part ejec- tion. This setup uses a sender/receiver as a small light curtain, adjustable verti- cally and horizontally on the part-out conveyor. While the arrangement minimizes cost, it does require some extra setup time and some care to position the sensors for each setup.
