    FABRICATION
Today’s fabricating technology promises the ability to produce high-quality components job after job, in a variety of applications. And, in each issue, MetalForming is committed to informing you on how fabrication equipment delivers.
In this issue, we tap the expertise of Mate Precision Technologies to explore how proper selection of CNC-punching tools can add efficiencies and reduce waste, leading to big money savings.
Also, find out how enterprise resource planning can allow various teams (inhouse and through the supply chain) to interact during part design and all the way through manufacturing to ensure efficient and cost-efficient part development and production.

QR Code-Based Work Orders
Ease Operation of Cosen Band Saws
Band-saw manufacturer Cosen Saws offers Q-Cut, which enables QR code- based work orders with preset parameters that load into the dashboard job screens of Cosen automatic saws. Q-Cut helps eliminate mistakes by inexperienced oper- ators, saves time versus manual job entry, and extends benefits of Cosen saws that include the ability to accurately forecast the number of remaining cutting hours left before a saw blade no longer will cut with precision or is likely to break, according to company officials.
User-friendly Q-Cut reportedly reduces the chances of operator error while ensur- ing more-efficient cutting—from creation of a work order to the scanning of job parameters into the Cosen saw, workflow can become much smoother.
In practice, use the Q-Cut dashboard
to generate job orders, select and input job parameters, and generate the work order with a QR code. The saw operator then simply scans
the QR code/job
into the machine,
where preset job
parameters are
loaded and can
be seen on the
job screen of the
saw's human-
machine interface.
And, some Cosen
saw machines
enable receipt of
suggested cutting parameters from the machines’ Mechalogix cloud technology, based on the material to be cut.

Four New Product Managers at Trumpf Inc.
Trumpf has announced several new product managers among its various tech- nology groups. Roger Michaud has been named product manager for TruMatic, TruPunch and TruBend standalone machines. During his 17 years at the company, Michaud has served in various roles in sales, service and training. For the last three years, he has been product manager for the TruMatic and TruPunch machines, and now assumes responsibility for the standalone TruBend machines from Franziska Maschowski.
Maschowski will continue to manage Trumpf’s automated bending-cell line and be responsible for the TruBend Cell prod-
ucts. Now, as head of Smart Factory appli- cations and bend automation, Maschowski also takes on responsibilities for the Trumpf Smart Factory applications team in Hoffman Estates, IL.
Trumpf also named Clinton Coleman TruMark product and project manager at its Laser Technology Center in Plymouth Township, MI. And it promoted Edyth Nicholson to product and project manager for high power lasers, also at the Laser Technology Center. She will be responsible for before- and after-sales technical support and management of customer projects related to Trumpf’s high-powered lasers.

Effective Teamwork Via ERP
Custom metal fabricator BTD Manu- facturing, Detroit Lakes, MN, has added two 10-kW fiber-laser cutting machines to its facilities—one each at its plants in Dawsonville, GA, and Washington, IL. Both machines are Mitsubishi 3015 GX-F models featuring automatic pallet changers and boasting sheet capacity to 5 by 10 ft.
and 2100 lb. The machines can cut mild and stainless steel to 1 in. thick, and alu- minum sheet and plate to 7⁄8 in. An auto zoom head automatically adjusts the beam size according to material type and thickness, and the automatic nozzle chang- er can sense cutting-nozzle wear and automatically replace it.
