Houston Welcomes New Waterjet-Machining Shop

To meet the growing demand in Houston, TX, for machining services to support OEMs in the industrial gas-turbine (IGT) market, Springfield Manufacturing LLC (SMCLLC), based in Clover, SC, has opened a 7800-sq.-ft. facility in Houston. The firm, which recently has proven out a waterjet-machining process to clear and clean holes on IGT blades after the thermal barrier and bond coats have been reapplied during maintenance. The machining process optimizes air flow.
The new machine shop already is home to a pair of abrasive-waterjet-cutting machines for cutting, drilling, milling, hole clearing and coating removal.
