GM to Close Early in Wisconsin

Friday, October 17, 2008

General Motors announced earlier this week its plans to close its sport-utility-vehicle factory in Janesville, WI, on December 23, 2008, some two years earlier than originally planned. The plant produces the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban vehicles, and the GMC Yukon. It employs 1200. News from other GM plants is equally distressing—its truck assembly plant in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, likely will close by the end of next year, and its SUV-assembly plant in Moraine, OH, is expected to halt production at the end of the 2010 model run.
