ULSAB Project Earns Award
for Vehicle Energy Efficiency

Monday, October 24, 2005

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) has received the Alliance to Save Energy 2005 Stars of Energy Efficiency Award, recognizing advances made in vehicle energy efficiency resulting from its UltraLight Steel Auto Body-Advanced Vehicle Concepts (ULSAB-AVC) project. The project produced a pair of vehicle concepts—a C-Class European model and a mid-size North American model. Remarkable achievements from the ULSAB-AVC project include the use of new lightweight advanced high-strength steels that help attain fuel economy of 53 miles/gal for a gasoline-engine version and 73 miles/gal using a diesel engine.
