R&D Project Studies Rollforming
of Variable-Thickness Material

Tuesday, January 4, 2005

Metform Intl. Ltd., Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, has completed an R&D project that included the design of rollforming tooling for forming parts from variable-thickness steel. It performed the project on behalf of a Canadian automotive-parts manufacturer. Material thickness varied by 50 percent over the length of each part. Results of the project prove that the use of innovative designs and materials in the tooling allows production-rollforming of the parts, allowing the customer to achieve weight-reduction goals without sacrificing the cost and strength advantages of steel, according to Metform officials.
