Machine-Tool Consumption up through October

Friday, December 17, 2004

U.S. machine-tool consumption through October 2004 is up 42.6 percent over 2003 figures, according to AMT—The Association for Manufacturing Technology and the American Machine Tool Distributors’ Association. AMT president John B. Byrd III attributes a boost in year-end sales to a strong IMTS show in September and the year-end expiration of the 50% Expensing Allowance. The regions showing the largest jumps in sales over 2003 sales have been the western region (up 84.3 percent over 2003), central (up 57.4 percent) and northeast (up 54.6 percent). The midwest region, which leads the pack in overall sales and accounts for 39.7 percent of the total U.S. market, is running 42.1 percent head of 2003 sales.
