Tube Shipments Improve in March

Friday, May 3, 2002

March shipments of mechanical tube increased 9-11 percent over February levels and increased 7-9 percent over March 2001 levels, according to data from the Steel Tube Institute of North America. But, cautions the institute, a raw material shortage and rapid price increases are causing much volatility in the marketplace. Shipments of hollow structural sections increased 7-9 percent over February and increased 5-7 percent compared to March 2001. Stainless-tube shipments posted 5-7-percent gains over February and March 2001 levels while standard pipe-shipments rose 5-7 percent in March but showed a 6-10-percent decrease as compared to March 2001.
